For this price with free shipping, this is a pretty good system for basic driveway fun. If you want a super sturdy system, you'll have to spend a lot more than $500. There is certainly some vibration but for an entry-level in-ground driveway system with a glass backboard the action seems OK. Installation takes some work but it is pretty straightforward - the instructions are clear and the parts are clearly labeled. It is a good looking hoop and the height adjustment is smooth. Note: This appears to be essentially the same as the Goaliath GB54iG, also from Escalade Sports (manuals are online and are exactly the same). You can find reviews for that system at [...] and the Dicks web site.UPDATE (April 2011): Its been almost a year and I've been using this hoop almost daily, weather permitting. I continue to be impressed by it. The glass action is fine, there is relatively little backboard shake, the rim is somewhat forgiving and the height adjustment is easy. As I said in the original review, if you want gym quality you'll have to spend a lot more. But for tooling around in your driveway, this thing rocks.

The Silverback SB-54iG is a good goal for my seven year old (playing with a junior sized ball) and I suspect it will be adequate for 4-5 more years. Although the 4" square pole is very stable (when cemented into the ground as per the manufacturers instructions), the brackets to which the backboard is mounted are not large (nor sturdy) enough to adequately stabilize it. When shooting with a full sized basketball the backboard shakes a good bit. If you plan to purchase a goal for teen-agers, I'd recommend at least a 5" pole with larger brackets. I purchased this model based on the recommendation of a salesman at Dick's Sporting Goods and the description given in the advertisement. The goal should be advertised for youth only.

This is a good system and provides good value for the money. It came with instructions that were clear to follow; expect that with setting the pole in concrete and the assembly it might take a few hours.Our teenager and his friends use it; we had an older, cheaper system and the square pole is much sturdier than others on the market.One small pet peeve: it is a shame that something as American as a basketball hoop can't be made in the US (as expected, this was made in China.)
