I bought this basketball goal as a Christmas present for my children. Not only is it pretty weak the scoring system did not work at all. I tried several things to get it to work with no luck. I called the company as instructed on the instructions and got an answering machine. It said I would receive a call in the order it was received. After three days with no call back I called again, same thing. After another two days without a callback I called again. This time i got a person on the phone. She proceeded to tell me they have over 2000 messages to answer to and that is why I have not heard from them. This number alone explains the problem!! They make terrible products. On top of me taking a week to get them it will take up two weeks to get the part mailed to my house to fix their defective product!!!Very upset and will never buy a MD Sports product again and would not recommend it to anyone else.

Nice Looking-Aweful Backboard

I had high expectations for this backboard considering it was the one recommended by Spaulding since they did not have anything in stock for me to purchase direct. Amazon did a great job in getting it to us propmtly, and for free. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew this wouldn't last too long. It was fairly simple to replace the old broken backboard with this new one, a few bolts here and there. The problem is how cheap the "polycarbonate" backboard is. Topping in at a measly 1/8" thick board, I felt as if it should have said "Buyer Beware" on it. It has no reaction when a ball is shot against it rather all you hear is a resounding "THUD" and the ball falls straight down. The frame is cheaply made and has severe wobble to it when a shot is made. Even with 200 lbs of water in the base and the goal squatting at 8 foot, it has way too much movement. I suppose it will be fine for my 8 and 5 year old but I'm sure glad I didn't have a 3 on 3 tourney scheduled with the guys after receiving this.

Great board

I bought this board and rim set as well as the Spalding 8406 Universal Mounting Bracket ($20) to mount it to my garage. The bracket fit perfectly with the backboard and mounted easily to my garage. I bought this for my 11 year old's birthday. My biggest concern was if the board was shatter proof - from the research that I did before buying, polycarbonate is the way to go. What makes it even better is the steel frame that the board sits in (included). I could not be happier with the board...and neither could my son. And as for the size of the board, 48" may not be regulation size, but it's still a 4 foot board and that's big enough for a kid to play on.

Great Backboard for the Buck

This is a really nice backboard. I mounted this on the Spalding 316 U-turn lift system on the front wall of my garage. How you mount this makes all the difference in how "responsive" the backboard is. A flimsy or loose mount will make it seem dead. I highly recommend the U-turn lift as it is rock solid and easy to adjust. Two factors I considered when purchasing this backboard vs. the 52" board (maximum the U-turn lift will take). First was price. The 52" costs another 50% over the 48". Those 2 extra inches on each side of the board weren't worth the extra cost. The other factor was the color of the stripes on the board. My garage is white. The stripes on this board are red and stand out very nicely on the white garage. The stripes on the 52" are white and would be lost in the white background (my 9 year old daughter pointed this out to me). You will need another person to help hold the board up while aligning the mounting bolts. The instructions even say that two people are required. Also, ream out the mounting holes so the main mounting bolts will slide through easily. Unless you will never have younger players, get an adjustable mount. The U-turn lift is more expensive, but it is worth the extra bucks for the extra strength.

Nice Basetball Goal System

I bought this goal as a Christmas gift for my sons [...]. To my immense relief, this goal system was easy to put together if you FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and are at all familiar with "exploded diagrams" for assembly. It says right on the first assembly page to "bore" out the holes if the paint is too thick. I just used a rubber mallet to assist with any sticky bolts, which were few and far between, This was a piece of cake to assemble and we elected to fill the base with the recommended 300 lbs. of sand instead of water. No leaks, no evaporation and sand is cheap! I put it together by myself, and I do agree that it would be easier at times with two people, so if you can get someone to assist, then it will go all the faster. The nuts and bolts are in all sorts of different packages and really aren't organized too well, but the assembly instructions have actual size drawings of each bolt and nut and how many you should have. A little common sense goes a long way here. The height adjusts perfectly and even my 11 year old son can do it when needed without any difficulty or safety issues. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good starter goal for home use. It is sturdy [...] Have a basic set of socket wrenches and screwdrivers and you will be fine. I gave it a 4 rating only based on the cheap net that is packaged with it. We bought a heavy duty one for a few dollars at a sporting goods store and it enhances the look and use of the goal.

Awesome basketball hoop!

We filled the base with playground sand, which took a while since the hole for it is pretty small. If you don't fill the base, it is very top heavy and will fall over. Once the base is full, it's awesome! My 12 year old daughter has been using it a ton since Christmas..obviously we didn't get a while Christmas! I'm glad she can enjoy it before we get our snow storms! Having the height adjustments is helpful. She uses the higher setting, but I have an 8 yr old daughter too that wants to use it :)

Dribbling the ball is one of the most important skills in the game. Most kids can learn to dribble quickly, but doing it with confidence is a different story. My daughter worked with the Zero Bounce Trainer this fall in preparation for the basketball season. I put it in front of the TV and told her that she could watch her favorite show while using the trainer. I tricked her into working with her head up and she quickly improved her strength and hand/ ball coordination. She has made a major jump in skill level from 4th to 5th grade. THANK YOU ZERO G!!!!

Nice Looking-Aweful Backboard

I had high expectations for this backboard considering it was the one recommended by Spaulding since they did not have anything in stock for me to purchase direct. Amazon did a great job in getting it to us propmtly, and for free. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew this wouldn't last too long. It was fairly simple to replace the old broken backboard with this new one, a few bolts here and there. The problem is how cheap the "polycarbonate" backboard is. Topping in at a measly 1/8" thick board, I felt as if it should have said "Buyer Beware" on it. It has no reaction when a ball is shot against it rather all you hear is a resounding "THUD" and the ball falls straight down. The frame is cheaply made and has severe wobble to it when a shot is made. Even with 200 lbs of water in the base and the goal squatting at 8 foot, it has way too much movement. I suppose it will be fine for my 8 and 5 year old but I'm sure glad I didn't have a 3 on 3 tourney scheduled with the guys after receiving this.

Great board

I bought this board and rim set as well as the Spalding 8406 Universal Mounting Bracket ($20) to mount it to my garage. The bracket fit perfectly with the backboard and mounted easily to my garage. I bought this for my 11 year old's birthday. My biggest concern was if the board was shatter proof - from the research that I did before buying, polycarbonate is the way to go. What makes it even better is the steel frame that the board sits in (included). I could not be happier with the board...and neither could my son. And as for the size of the board, 48" may not be regulation size, but it's still a 4 foot board and that's big enough for a kid to play on.

Great Backboard for the Buck

This is a really nice backboard. I mounted this on the Spalding 316 U-turn lift system on the front wall of my garage. How you mount this makes all the difference in how "responsive" the backboard is. A flimsy or loose mount will make it seem dead. I highly recommend the U-turn lift as it is rock solid and easy to adjust. Two factors I considered when purchasing this backboard vs. the 52" board (maximum the U-turn lift will take). First was price. The 52" costs another 50% over the 48". Those 2 extra inches on each side of the board weren't worth the extra cost. The other factor was the color of the stripes on the board. My garage is white. The stripes on this board are red and stand out very nicely on the white garage. The stripes on the 52" are white and would be lost in the white background (my 9 year old daughter pointed this out to me). You will need another person to help hold the board up while aligning the mounting bolts. The instructions even say that two people are required. Also, ream out the mounting holes so the main mounting bolts will slide through easily. Unless you will never have younger players, get an adjustable mount. The U-turn lift is more expensive, but it is worth the extra bucks for the extra strength.

Cheap product... Electronics did not work. Fold out part sat at an angle..Basketballs looked like they were dog toys. Was even more disappointed because it was a christmas gift for my son and it was a total failure. Garbarge!

No hang height options. Battery pack located near very top of backboard, can't adjust bracket. Box reads "C" batteries are required. Bought batteries, found nowhere to place them. "A" batteries included did not work. Would give zero stars if that was an option.
