bought May 2011, update 2012 still going strong

All the conditions mentioned below still apply and this workhorse is still durable.We put this up in the community area outdoors and a group of 10 - 15 of us have been using it twice a week for months now, not to mention all the neighborhood kids that practice. It has shown no sign of wear yet.

I had an old Huffy in ground system that i bought from Sportsmart about 15 years ago.I came with a 4x4 squate pole and also came with the exact lift system as the Spalding U turn 316.I learned 2 things. 1st that the spalding Uturn 316 sytem is perfect for this rim and backboard and 2 , that my old system was compatiblewith this frame and backbord. Overall the backboard and rim are of great quality for 300 bucks. I was a little skeptical, but once we opened it and mounted itit has the feel of a solid indoor gym backboard. Didnt see a review previously, so hopes this takes ther edge off if your considering buying this combo......extremely satisfied.

What a nightmare!

I am a bit of a research hound and settled on this backboard due to price, looks, and reviews. First off for the price you pay compared to cheaper backboards this is a great deal. Now being that you have to jump up to the $600 range for more "competitive" quality backboards I was comfortable with this set up. I went to the local steel-mill and sunk a 14 foot 1/8 thick 4" square post in the ground and installed the Spalding Uturn 316 mount (Which for the price I was very impressed with) The directions are terrible and misleading but overall all it plays decent for a driveway hoop (much better than the lifetime portables etc.) Now, no fault to Amazon but the first one arrived scratched up and with a dent in the aluminum frame. I feel new should be new when I make a purchase so I immediately requested a replacement and Amazon had a new one to my door in 2 days. 2nd one arrived with a huge crack in the plexiglass! Called Amazon and they again sent a replacement. 3rd one arrived (no cracks) but with more scratches than the first one I received. Amazon finally gave me the option to refund me altogether or take 20% off the first one I received since it was the better cosmetically of the three, which is what I did and I commend Amazon for there customer service, top notch. The problem is Spalding and there total lack of packaging, I mean it is a joke for an item like this. Amazon probably spent $300 in total shipping costs just to end up giving me a discount on an item that should have been perfect when It arrived the first time. All and all my son seems very happy with it and hopefully it will hold up to the weather and normal hoop action. It does look great compared to the cheesy ones littered through out our neighborhood.
