THE SETUP:The total setup took approximately 6 hrs. for two men. There are several steps that seem very strange, many that make no sense. Yet you must follow them EXACTLY. The instructions are poorly written, so when setting up, pay close attentions to the PICTURES as well as the WORDS. Be sure you have a full set of wrenches, screwdrivers, an electric drill, a rubber mallet, and a very large funnel [if you plan on filling it up with sand]. Make sure you have at least 2 people total setting this thing up because it would be impossible by yourself.Before you begin the project, decide whether you want to fill the base up with water or sand. Water is very easy, but how much work you put into something is how much you will receive. In other words, water will decrease stability and performance, but all you have to do is stick a hose in and fill it up. Sand provides the best you can get out of your system. It is much more solid and provides better rebounding. WARNING: Filling the base up with sand is extremely tedious. Be 100% sure this is what you want your base filled with before you begin. Also a LARGE funnel is absolutely necessary. A small one will simply not do (using a small one takes over an hour because the base needs 400 lbs. of sand. Also note: if you are going to fill the base up with sand find DRY sand. The sand that was purchased when I built this product was moist. This made it one hundred times harder to do because the funnel would clog up with the sand.At the end of the setup, it was discovered that the rim was titled slightly upward. I'm not sure yet if this was a mistake on our part, or the manufacture. But regardless, be warned. Again, follow the instructions completely.Unfortunately, I can only rate the product as a whole, but I give the setup itself 2 stars [1 for having all the pieces + 1 because of the fact the hoop is still standing].THE HOOP:This is by no means a hoop worthy of the NBA, but it serves its purpose as a residential hoop for small pick-up games, H-O-R-S-E, 1-on-1, etc. Compared to most portable systems, when this hoop is filled with sand, it is very sturdy. Being this solid, it provides fairly realistic rebounding (another advantage).The adjustment for this hoop is awful. It is very tricky to get the hang of it. In order to set it to 10 feet, one must pull very hard on the adjustment system. Again, this may be a mistake on our part, but be forewarned.Moving the hoop, when filled with stand, may also be difficult, but not impossible [it is very heavy].The hoop itself I would give 4 stars. It is very sturdy for a portable system.OVERALL:In the end, I would recommend this hoop to anyone who is looking for a fairly cheap portable system (although it would help if you were experienced in setting these things up).
