4Solid System for Price
By MNMOHIO
We purchased this system based on price and reviews. Most reviews read were accurate. Good system with some installation challenges. Heres what we did and it seemed to work well.Dig hole 2x2x3 ( the three foot depth was for northeast Ohio frost line)Ditch Sleeve and mark pole with tape for depth into hole for increased stabilityOrdered concrete and had it delivered due to the need for almost 1500 pounds by the bag.Filled hole within 8 inches of the top of the hole using vertical and horizontal rebar for added support. Add remaining concrete to top of form. (form made using 2x4's)Insterted bottom of pole section 14-16 inches down from top of hole (same as if sleeve was used. Used tape to mark pole depth). A pole level was valuable while concrete was setting to keep the pole straight. Also used a 4 foot piece of rebar extending 2 feet up into bottom of the pole and 2 feet down from the bottom of the pole, into the hole. Pour conrete into bottom pole section up to about 12 inches from the top. Before concrete sets, take another 4 foot piece of rebar and stick in 2 feet down into the top of the bottom pole section, with 2 feet sticking out into the air (spacers were used to keep rebar in middle of pole). The second piece of rebar will make the two piece pole section stronger.Allow to dry for a few days.CONNECTING BOTH POLE SECTIONS.Apply grease to the top 3 inches of pole in concrete and three inches of grease to inside of top pole section. Place top pole section on bottom pole section (already set in concrete). Mark the bottom pole section 5-6 inches from the top with tape so you know how far the top pole needs to go down (the beveled part of the top pole is about 6 inches). Get a 6x6 inch (approx) piece of wood and place on top of upper pole section. Using a large hammer or small sledge, moderately pound the wood to get the top pole section to slide onto the lower section. The grease seemed to make this an easy connection. After the top pole is 5-6 inches over the bottom section, add additional concrete to bring it up to the level specified in the directions (1-2 inches below lower elevator arm bolt holes). Allow to set for a few days. Tape the seem between the poles to prevent water from concrete from staining the pole. We did this but it still leaked somewhat. The hard part is done. Install backboard, and rim and your ready to go.Not easy, but for the price and some planning and hard work, seems like a good product.

5BEST GOAL FOR THE PRICE
By D. Marks
Wanted to leave a review praising this system and commented on other review.I agree with you. The instructions are terrible. However the goal is the best in the mid-range price. The new systems like this one has a two piece pole. The bottom pole is straight with no holes and the top pole has holes and is beveled to go over the bottom. The bevel is about 4 or 5" deep so that's how far the bottom must go in. Mark the bottom pole about 5" down and then bang the top pole on by bouncing on a solid surface till it goes down to the mark or close. I would not have stopped after 2". If it just won't go, I would call Spalding for a new pole. They are good about sending out parts, fast too-800-558-5234. A one piece pole would be best but would require all shipping to be done via truck not UPS so more expensive plus, would it have fit in your minivan? The PLASTIC ground sleeve should not be used unless you plan on moving soon. It is plastic and allows too much wobble. Goals should be as sturdy as possible not removable. The pole should go directly into the cement about 14" or to the top of sleeve if you insist on using that. Level the pole at the top because that segment will hold the backboard. Face in the direction you want it to face and let dry for 3 sunny days.Day2 is easier done with a ladder not by removing the pole. Simply carry an arm up the ladder and bolt. Carry the second with plates and bolt. Attach the crank thingy. With helper, attach the backboard. Attach the rim and tighten all bolts. Find 10', mark crank thingy, apply sticker. Doing the Day2 from the back of a pickup is easiest and a 1 man job.Now is when you want to add concrete to the pole. Mix another bag a bit wetter than usual so it will pour from a bucket down the pole. Do this slowly to not make a mess. Also, tape the joint on the pole because some cement will leak out there and it stains the pole and won't come off. Let it dry for two days and remove tape. The instructions are bad, written by lawyers i'm sure. Read them to get the idea and also use them for all the details of bolts and washers but do the rest my way.Instructions Here:[...]*Notice STEP 1 talks about identifying the pole sections (now only two sections). STEP 8 on page 11 shows how to put poles together and has a warning stating "Pole sections should have a 4 ½" (11.4 cm) minimum overlap."

4Great customer service
By Nooby
I can't really review this without going into Spalding customer service. I got this for my kids for Christmas. I installed the pole according to instructions I found from other reviewers. When I went to install the rim, I ended up shattering the glass. I wrote their customer service and explained how I was using a really small wrench so there was no way I could apply a lot of pressure. It took them a couple of days to respond but they did and sent me out a brand new backboard for free. Now that's what I consider fantastic customer service.
